Autism Diagnostic Assessments
Davies and Robertson Psychology are now offering Autism Diagnostic Assessments for children aged 3-17 years.
Who will be performing the assessment?
Ms Clara Mittiga is a Clinical Psychologist with close to 10 years’ experience working with children. She has trained with AutismSA to perform Autism Diagnostic Assessments.
Being a mother of two young children, Clara has been immersed in observing children in the early developmental years. She has also focused her clinical practice in the area of child psychology, both through her role at Davies and Robertson Psychology and her concurrent employment at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). To add to this, she has previous experience as a Psychologist within the Department of Education and Development (DECD). She loves connecting with children and families to understand their goals and help move them in their valued direction. Clara has a kind, playful, considered and professional approach to Autism Diagnostic Assessments.
What is involved?
Before your assessment appointment
Our comprehensive assessment involves collating relevant information from any current professionals you have involved in your child’s care. If your child has any relevant educational, medical or allied health (e.g. Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Psychology) assessment reports we ask that you provide a copy of them for the Autism Diagnostic Assessment. You will also be sent questionnaires for completion prior to your assessment appointment.
These include;
- A developmental history questionnaire for caregivers
- Educational setting questionnaire for an educator
Caregiver Interview
The assessment also involves a detailed discussion with caregivers focusing on your child’s development as well as their current social skills, communication and behaviours. The interview is guided by the DSM-V criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder. We allow 2 hours for this interview and it can be completed in the clinic or via Telehealth (video call).
Clinic assessment appointment
On the day of the clinic assessment appointment, we meet with your child for a play-based session for the purpose of direct observation and assessment of your child’s social skills, communication and behaviours. We allow 1.5 hours for this, however 1 hour is usually sufficient.
Feedback
Once an outcome is reached we will discuss the result with you, explaining the rationale and providing recommendations for next steps to take in supporting your child.
Report
A written report will be provided summarising the process, the outcome and its rationale; along with recommendations. In cases where a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder is made, the report can be included with an NDIS application for those seeking access to funding for supports.
